Need opinion on website
Hello everybody,
Can somebody help me, please? I created a website for my husband and his partner. They own a lounge in Brooklyn. I wanted to save money for them, and did it completely free. I am a programmer with 20 years experience in different sub-areas. My specialization is not exactly webmaster, but I know enough html, asp, jsp, and much more.
But after I created this website (in September) a lot of other companies and people started approaching them and offering professional help. So, my husband’s partner came under the influence and expressed a doubt, saying that “maybe we better hire a professional”. That was terribly offending for me.
If somebody can look and give me critiques and also tell if my husband’s partner was right...
The site is http://www.loungecasanova.com/
By the way, my mailing list program (which is in ASP) works well since mid-October, at this time we have 55 people in our mailing list.
Thanks,
Marina

Hi Marina,
I think that the web site doe's need a little work.
Let's start with the images, they are great but there is no one in the club, it looks empty like if it's not a very popular night club. Take images of your club when it's full of people.
2. add the <meta name="keywords" content= and the <meta name="description" content= as some of the smaller search engines and the directories still use them.
3. Title in your html you have Casanova Lounge - Night Club which is good , but I do it Night Club Lounge, Casanova Lounge. Some search engines use the title as the key words so I'd put my key words first.
4.to the images ad some words in the ALT tag.
5. You need to work on the writing in every page as for key words that are the most important to you, but it has to sound right and read well so the visitor's like what they are reading.
6. You need to start working on your link in's from other web sites, like other night clubs in other cities, countries, do some exchanges of links with them. Exchange links with any web site that you think will help you with visitors and the search engine rankings. Check your link popularity at
http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/default.htm
Hope this will help you.

Thank you very much Henry.
I value all 6 of your comments. I will definitely will do all the changes. I liked the most # 6, as it sounds attracting and new to me. I am thinking now about exchanging with somebody in different city at the beginning.
I checked the popularity, compared with other small restaurants in the area. Not a bad result, but hopefully will be better.
Thanks again!

When you look at night clubs and restaurants in your city and in other cities make sure that you look at there links and click on the search engine links that MarketLeap.com gives you that way you can ask the same web sites to link with you. That's a good way to get link in's.
Another thing I do is go open an account at NameWinner.com and Pool.com and also see if Snapnames.com and reserve the domain name CasanovaLounge.com as it will expire on Jan 15 04
if the owners do not renew. This will help you bring traffic as your real name is Casanova Lounge. Read the whois below,
Registrant:
CASANOVA NEW YORK CITY
218 AVENUE A
NEW YORK, NY 10009
United States
Registrar: DOTSTER
Domain Name: CASANOVALOUNGE.COM
Created on: 15-JAN-02
Expires on: 15-JAN-04
Last Updated on: 27-JAN-03

That's what I do all day is hunt down domain names that people forget to pay so please never let your domain name expire, as there are many like me that hunt them down. The longer you have your web site up the more traffic it get's and the more valuable the domain name becomes for you and for the hunter as he can make good money just redirecting that domain name to he's web site.
I just got one today SearchTheWorld.com and in Aug I got WhatsOnline.com and Nov I got SoccerMania.com As you can see people forget valuable assets.
I hope all of this helps you and please spread the news about my web site http://www.WallStreet.usa financial and business directory as you are in New York.

Thank you Marina,
Here is the info: Wall Street Financial Directory for investors and traders with thousands of searchable listings.
You will find information and news in the various categories.
I got an idea! I will add a new catagory to http://www.WallStreet.us/ that will list companies that are located in New York as Wall Street is New York. You will be the first listing.
Henry

Re:Need Opinion of Web site
Marina,
First off don't be offended by your husband's partner's
concerns. Most likely the self proclaimed professional
designers were trolling through the registrars and found the
lounge site and paid a visit.
Following up of course with a bias critique and pitch for
their business.
Before doing any site design (yourself or otherwise) you
must answer three questions:
1. Why is this site on the web?
2. Who would want to visit the site?
3. What specific action do I want a qualified vistor to
take?
Are you wanting to draw in new patrons or just provide some
sort of virtual showcase?
Once you know what your site's sole purpose is then you can
better target your market.
Henry made very valid points, one of which is keywords.
For example who does the lounge most appeal to? Would it be
the local residents, business travellers in the area, a
younger club oriented crowd, etc.?
Design the site with more focus on the benefits to this
specific group.
Keep in mind it is words that motivate people to action, not
pictures.
From the photos on the site it appears to have a "regal"
look inside.
A home page with a few paragraphs of benefit packed content
wrapped around a black and white photo of the lounge would
present an air of class about the business.
Remember the website visitor only wants to know one thing...
what's is in it for me.
Once last thought, it doesn't matter how "professional" a
site looks if no one sees it and takes action.
Best of success...
