We are trying to find more ways to promote our site and get higher search engine rankings. Our business does landscape design and website design. I am wondering if anyone has ever read and/or purchased the Gorilla Marketing book. I hate to fall for internet hype and I am just wondering if there is really any good information in there. We do have meta tags on our site and a few appropriate links. I did submit to wildfirehits and got a lot of hits, but no interest in our services. Back to my question, does anyone know if this Gorilla marketing book is worth the money?

Hi,
I would definitely NOT purchase any Guerilla Marketing book. All that type of info is FREE and widely available on the Internet or via university websites. With my Marketing background, there is some truth to those techniques in the books, but use your judgement. But you have to remember who you are targeting and why. I would stick with meta tags and related-link exchanges. Think about hiring an Search Engine Optimizer (SEO) to increase your search engine rankings to promote and drive traffic to your site. As another alternative, consider advertising or sponsoring "opt-in" emails. This has worked very well for us in the past and we're doing it again shortly. Excellent conversion rates. Though not immediately, you'll be surprised to find people call 3-4 months down the line, saying they saw your ad! Anyways, hope that helps. I'd be interested in what others have to add! All my education on marketing was done in the late 1960's. most of what I learned I have forgotten.
What I do know is, that marketing is extremely specific, marketing ceramic tiles is totally different from marketing Carpet, one would think they were similar but no. some items can be posted, some emailed, some delivered, some must be intalled . . When someone asks a question about marketing. If you do not get an immediate response of at least three questions. you have asked the wrong person. Why are you mixing landscape design with Internet design? - Is the Landscape design involving contractors (hands on) or simply concept only? Your Public library will have books on marketing - learn the principles then apply them to your unique situation - You already know that you can email a million people - sit down with your business partners and come up with something irresistable. . . My initial thoughts are that if you are intending to market landscape designs, then I would be offering a design service (with free basic website) to every related contactor or grower in the phone book. Then I would probably issue them all with a free business card . . . then I would find a "Quotation" program (plenty on the net) that could be used on a laptop by the contractors - Then I think I would hand them the advertising that they need to use in their own local newspaper to promote their business. then get to work giving them the best designs that they could wish for. I think a landscape Gardening site done expertly using an aspect of 'franchise' could be worth Millions. Actually Making it all work would be tricky. Internet Design - would need some realy good thinking to come up with something new.

Thanks for the input. I am not really looking for some marketing advise, so I don't need the information about giving away free websites, etc. We have several businesses we are partnering with for promotional reasons. I think we have the "off-line" marketing aspects covered.
I was really just looking for some ways to get higher search engine rankings. That is supposedly the information in the gorilla marketing book. But I think I can got to a couple of search engine information sites and get the same information.

Yes - you can get the SAME info for FREE. The basic premise behind the book is that you ALSO purchase something called "Zeus" the "Internet Marketing Robot". This app. helps you get reciprocal links.
Zeus is not cheap. I bought the book, but would not recommend it to anyone. In fact, some webmasters give this away (according to the author, you are permitted to give it away provided you use his special URL and as an incentive to have someone exchange links with you) - so I ended up getting a second copy for free, while having to pay for the first one. :-( The only real way to get higher search engine rankings is to ensure your site is correctly optimized, perhaps look at paying for PPC programs as this will give you "instant" qualified traffic. Google AdWords is another option as well. Good luck! Mohammed Quote:

I know this is a very old thread, but when I saw it I felt that I had to add something, given my experience of Glenn Canady's Website Marketing e-book and in particular the VERY expensive course that he runs.
I paid $8000 for the course and frankly I am EXTREMELY unhappy about the whole experience. For anyone thinking of doing this course I suggest you read my experience of it before coming to any decision. I'm documenting it all on the following site : http://the-glenn-canady-gorilla-webs...rse-review.com I'm updating the site on a daily basis, so be patient if it isn't complete when you look at it. I have purchased the Gorilla Book and agreed that the only content inside is that you should purchase Zeus.
However, the book is right that: - Reciprocal Link building is crucial to get traffic and higher SE rankings - Doing reciprocal linking manually can be very tedious - Software can help Besides on Zeus, there are other tools: - Arelis - Goldpositiongold - Several Link Managers (i.e. Reciprocal Manager) I would recommend definitely to use a tool. I have a free trial copy of Zeus and is really not bad. All other tools have also free trials to get started. Good luck! Alex |

Hello:
I think you mean "Guerrilla Marketing," by Jay Conrad Levison. I've owned that book for over twenty years, and I can tell you, it's worth every penny I paid for it and more! This book will provide you with more low-cost promotion ideas than you could ever possibly use in a lifetime. BUY THAT BOOK! |

Hi Dean,
I can assure you that nobody here is talking about Jay Conrad Levison's book. What we are talking about is the Gorilla Website Marketing book written by Glenn Canady. I'm sure that Mr. Canady got a little inspiration from the title of Jay Conrad Levison's book when he was deciding on a title ! My gripe is not with the basic message of Glenn Canady's book, that themed linking is good, my gripe is that I paid $8000 to do his Gorilla Website Marketing Course and quite frankly I feel that I have been scammed. They claimed I would be getting a return on my money before my first credit card bill hit me. In retrospect, I should have realised that this was not possible. Glenn Canady pretends it is nothing to do with him, and the people he got to run the course in his name never reply to my emails and pretend to Glenn Canady that they've tried to contact me (or so Glenn Canady's people say). That is why I am documenting the whole sorry saga, one day at a time, on my site : http://the-glenn-canady-gorilla-webs...rse-review.com I want to put on record what I got (and didn't get) for my money and document the claims that were made, and what actually happened. I'm sure Jay Conrad Levison's book is excellent. I'd probably be $7985 better off if I'd bought that instead ! Chris |

Just to clarify, coc - You paid $8,000 bucks for a course on guerilla marketing and it's not working? For $8,000 you could have hired a team of guerilla marketers to do your work for you and have been way better off.
Here's a key to marketing - Don't pay for what you can't measure.

the book is all hype
They had a company that I seo'd as a referral. I've never used the book and when I started woking on the site, it was only listed in Google and got very little traffic. I guess it's kind of funny when you think about it, they were using a site that wasn't listed in most of the search engines as an example of how their techniques work! lol
