I am new to this forum and I am sure there is a thread here with plenty of recomended directories for getting inbound links. If someone could post the url to it that would be groovy.

It was even nicer until the server carrying my list of directories went down.
I sent them a mail and got the following reply!

Mahadsanid xiriirka aad la soo yeelatay SomaliTalk.com. Waxaan akhrin doonaa farriinta aad noo soo dirtay, Insha Allah, markaas ayaan kuu soo diri doonaa jawaabta farriintaas ku aadan.

Markale mahadsanid
http://www.somalitalk.com

I don't know what it means either!

Hi Web Gazelle,
The Best-free-search-engine-list.com site offers free search engine lists. It's homepage www.best-free-search-engine-list.com/index.htm includes "New additions or updates to the list this month" so you'll always see an updated list.

The list is available in five six formats including HTML include file, Excel, HTML, ASCII, dBASE, and PDF. This list can be used to
- hand submit your site URL to search engines after you have done SEO or search engine optimization
- add a submission list to your web site to increase traffic
- import the data to your own submission program or URL submission script
- track what, when, and where you have submitted your site
- and track site submissions for your client's web sites.

Good luck getting many inbound links.

Simon - maybe Arabic? Insha Allah loosely translates as "God Willing".

It is an Islamic country, so no surprises there. It is not Arabic, not with Roman letters.

Default Question

Is submitting our url at a directory equal to a search engine when it comes to establishing a link?

belindaC,

The "creme de creme" in Directories are those that at least have a PR4 on the page you will ultimately be linked on.

There are some of them about, and they are not necessarily the ones with a high PR on the first page. Joeant, for instance, is down to a PR1 in my category!

The low PR directories could end up being high PR ones in the future. I submit to all of those because when the have a good PR they may no longer be free. Primodirectory is an example as they now charge a submission fee.

Search engines are not the same as directories as they ususally don't give you a link. Submitting to them could be a big waste of time.

They are mostly a big waste of time. Search engines will find you anyway. I do submit to all the directories I can find, I was just having a grumble! I only mentioned JoeAnt because they already charge. I still decided to use them though.

You have a very valid point there!... That is the "game" after all, isn't it! Maybe we should ascribe more value here: http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=21900

Thanks,

When submitting to directories the best thing to do is see what kind of inbound links they have. They might have a low PR now but it all could change at the next update.

It might be an idea to varying the linking text slightly, not have them all identical. Just a paranoid thought. If you have an internal page that is relevant to a directory and can stand on its own, then submit that to one or two, instead of the main URL. They all tell you not to, but just act stupid if they complain!
