Well Christmas it's almost knocking and I was wondering what promotion strategy would you think it would be more suitable for a backup software (
Backup4all):
- a major discount (like 35-40% off) but for a week or 2 before Christmas
a " $15 after rebate" promotion for December
a "get a chance to win one of the 20 licenses given away as prizes", contest that would last for a month
or giving away like 500 licenses of an older version of the program?
The first promotion, that with the discount, has the advantage that from all 4 ones has the biggest "call to action" impact but unfortunatelly it's not so easy to promote, so it would increase the conversion rate rather then bringing more visitors.
The second promotion, with the rebate, has a smaller "call to action" impact then the discount but it may bring more profit because not many of the customers would ask for the rebate (I know it sounds "evil" but sometimes you have to think this way).
The third and fourth ones have the advantage of being easier to promote (sweepstakes directories etc.) but the lowest "call to action" impact ("action" being the buying process).
I'm thinking that the best would be to combine 2 promotions, like 2 and 4, and see if that brings the best results. Anyway, I'm having doubts about the success of the Christmas campaign, mainly because of the nature of the product. Not many people give backup software as gifts for Christmas :))).
