I rely entirely on word-of-mouth referrals from clients.

Word of mouth is great if you live in a City.

Get out and spend a lot of time registering with different Design Directories and search engines.

What is your site and where?

Build up a portfolio but rlrouse is spot on, referrals are best.

Hi,

Writing articles for free article sites, having a monthly newsletter, joining and being active in local organizations, word-of-mouth, mailing out postcards every other month all work for me. I will admit that my postcard mailings give me the lowest response rate.

Have Fun,
Jeff

Yes, you can find a good project only from word-of-mouth referrals. But sometimes marketing features also work.. so don`t forget about newsletters, adds and the most important your website promotion. Because your website is your only shopwindow...

Default Web Services

To Jeff,

I don't suppose you know Kurt and Mary Jayne Eckstein by any chance?

Hi madeonmoon,

Internet - get good at what you do
Referrals - see above
Advertising, subject to budget

Get known locally and develop your skills. Also use these type of forums to impress other web developers that they could use your skills so that you are able to do joint sites. Remember none of us knows it all and a lot of us even having a whole 9 years experience are not interested in certain aspects of the web.

Take the skills that you are good at, offer your services to local charities etc. Do not underprice yourself after you have done at least 3.

Learn SEO and get to the top so that you are found???????????

There is no easy route but the bottom line is that you need a good portfolio of sites that your potential customers would like for themselves.

Do not go down the route of so many of underselling your skills because once you set the price putting it up is the hardest thing to do. Mortgage, electricity, gas, fod and etc have to be paid.
