Link exchange with a directory

We have started a new directory. It is a paid directory, but we´re also searching for sites that are willing to exchange links (and thus don't have to pay.)

By the way,.. I forgot to mention. If you have articles that you would like to publish on our website,... ýou can submit those too. Good articles get published and get you a free backlink to your website.

I hate to be rude but how can you justify charging people for a link when:

1. You have very little traffic

2. Your website is unprofessional design wise

3. You site has poor ranking.

I have a major directory and I do not charge anything and NEVER will. And to top it off Microsoft wants to include it in their Submit It program.

Give him a break, he is just getting started.

And it is up to him if he charges or not, he isn't forcing us to pay. More cost = less takers, but that may suit him.
