Default Need some advice on how to promote my Forum

http://www.canadaswap.com

It's basically going to be a portal for Canadians (and anyone else who decides to stop by) where they can talk, and "swap" (sell, buy, trade) with local members in regional forums.

I'm new to this whole thing with marketing online. I can sell when I meet you face to face but I have no clue where to take something like this on the internet. If anyone here has any suggestions/ideas I would be happy to hear them.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, forums can be a very difficult site to pull off

And, personally, no offence, but I don't think a message forum is the right type of format for what you are trying to do.
Some kind of classifieds for the bulk of your site may be a better option.

The key, is that a forum has to be busy. Recruit as many people, friends, family as possible to start posting, so when new visitors pop by, they're more apt to join.
It's also best to start with a smaller number of forum categories. It's not going to look so good with so many forums with very little posts or topics. As your site begins to grow, you can add more forums

There are a couple of *Forum Directories* where you can have your site listed:

Try some of the following:

forum-search.com
forumzilla.com
boardreader.com
forumdirectory.com
forumsarchive.com

Good luck!

Scott
