Any good NEW ideas to help me promote my site?

Hey all - I have built a website for actors and filmmakers called BiggerPockets.com - http://www.biggerpockets.com

I've tried many things to build traffic, including writing emails requesting link exchanges on relevant sites (has begun to work), posting through myself and a friend on related message boards, and of course, submissions to search engines. My traffic is now averaging around 60+ hits a day (pretty pathetic, huh?).

I need some help. First, I would like to optimize the site for the keywords acting, actor, and actress. Secondly, I have a great idea to help get our name and site out, but I'm not sure how to push thee idea( I have a button "this site listed w/BiggerPockets" - see http://www.joshuareed.com for an example).

I have heard about using Yahoo Groups to push a site....how would I go about doing this? Do I just join all the groups or can I just send to the (post message email address) without joining? Is there an easier way?

Otherwise, I have a message board (can't really get people to start posting yet), and I have begun to add articles to the site.

There are about 10 sites that I'm competing with overall for my niche, but I need some real help to start building the traffic. Any suggestions, ideas, whatever would be great. Feel free to email me (webmaster@......), or just post ideas, help here.
