link exchange worth it

Hi all I was wondering is exchanging links worth the trouble of looking for them. Does it matter if the other site is related or not.

People started abusing the system big time, so Google quite quickly figured out how to fight it. Do not spend much time with exchanging links, if you came across a site which has an authority in your sector, niche and is willing to exchange links, do it, otherwise, in my opinion, it’s not worth it at all. Simply, shift focus from quantity to quality.

Just mind it....Relevancy is the most important factor in link exchanging....

Link exchange is very important.It can improve your pagerank.But one thing should be in mind that the site should be relevent to your site.

Another thing to consider is the site that you are linking to. Do they have a reciprocal link directory with thousands of links. Most people willing to swap links do so be careful.
The problem is Goggle has now set off linking paranoia, this could be see as "being involved in a linking scheme" or "linking to bad neighborhoods" or "link farm" you name it, they have a way of shedding a negative light on linking if not done naturally .
If you have a new site this might be a good way to get indexed, but don't rely on it.
Also submit to appropriate directories.
