Only homepage to homepage links for real estate websites with quality content and same PR (4,5).

I have a real estate related site with PR5 and decent traffic. I'm interested in linking if you have good PR but not to my homepage.
Can someone explain if homepage linking is better than on a link page or resource page, from my limited understanding it would hurt my PR and besides not be a good presentation for end user. Also, if somone has a homepage pr 5 and resource page 3 and the link comes from resource page 3, is the link given credit for the 5 or 3?

I am also interested in linking to any real estate related , debt settlement, bankruptcy firm, banking institution site with a good pr ranking but not to my homepage.
