Default How important is IP Address for Link Exchange

Some of the webmasters insist on not having link exchange with sites which have same IP Address. Would like to know how relevant is an IP Address with respect to Link Exchange.
Will there be any positive effect if I exchage links with unique IP address sites ??

Depends on the quality of the link exchange.

I've had links from several completely different sites on the same IP and got PR5 results from it (two of the linking domains have PR5 main pages) - I think google will devalue more for several "similar" pages linking to you.

well IP address does not matter, it matters only in PR and number of pages indexed by google and others.

Search engines look up the IP address of the pages linking to you, and links from the same IP are devalued accordingly. This is to keep webmasters from pointing all of their sites at each other. It's not a bad thing to have more than one link per IP, but it's more valuable to have lots of links from different addresses.
