the home page is /index.html

and link page is /directory.htm

is these two different websites??

It is the same site, just different pages.
the extensions .htm and .html are irrelevant.

The index page is .htm because that is what his/her server has set the default document to.
You shouldnt worry about this.

Hi timmathews;

I am not on anything. Really!

I am still new at building my website, I guess I should asked why a website have .html and .htm extentions on different pages.

Now that we are on this subject, can you use extention .php on another page??

To me this seems silly I guess.

You could mistype a page with extention .html with .htm that page won't load, right?

It didn't work for me.

Hey adbart;

This may sound funny to you but I have received link from link partners
with extension .htm and uploaded to my link page the links don't loaded.

Added a ' l ' and the link work.

Email the webmasters (one of them a member of this forum actually) and they
said it was a mistake. The link should end with .html

Do you mix extensions .html and .htm on you website? How about your
clients?

Like page-a.html and page-b.htm
