Default link drops - UK links

In the last week the iBLs to all of our sites have dropped by almost a third. I have noticed a lot of people seeing irregularities in their links at the minute, but I just wondered if so far any one had noticed a pattern or reason for this?

Also, to any UK users, could you recommend any good business directories/listings I could apply for. I have us listed in a pretty large number anyhow, but am always looking for more.

We cannot offer link exchanges, so preferably ones that do not require a return link to the directory. We are releasing press releases and news stories but they are slow to be released as they all have to be signed off by about 8 people (red tape!)

I have been taking time over optimising our new site that goes live this week, but been neglecting the link strategy a bit of late.

Also - our new site goes live this week and will be at the same address as our current site, and the pages are named the same and optimised the same, and have basically the same content (just a bit updated) but there are some different pages, and fewer images. We currently have first page for our major keywords in Google UK - is there any reason this should drop when we put the new site up? any damage limitation methods I can be using? Thank you!

new sites sometimes rank well for some of their keywords and disappear soon after.

Enjoy the top rankings in meantime :-)

as far as I can see, there is no pattern forming from the irregularities of backlinks. they are just erratic.

I am not sure if I was answering your questions.

yeah but general rule of thumb, dont reoptimise around with top ranking pages. you may lose them if you dont optimise properly. :-(
