Default It's about time I introduced myself!

Hello all,

I have been on the board off and on for some time now and never introduced myself.

I have been working with and on computers since 1965, yes I am old!

The first computer I ever worked on was a Burroughs with a one bit processor and bi-mag technology. It had vacuum tubes, no disk drives, no floppies, I/O was a 300 baud teletype! They were so easy to maintain. Just open the cabinets, turn off the lights and look for tubes that glowed red or blue (we called them gassy back then), replace the glowing tubes and the thing ran forever.

I have been a Field Engineer all my life and I have worked on most of them, including the old RCA Q7, all three stories high of it, with it's own dual diesel generators to provide it with power! Huge 6 cylinder deisels with cylinders so big around you could stick your head inside of one!

I was amazed at the first 300 megabyte disk drive I saw, it was the size of a washing machine and had 19 Read/Write heads and removable media! What an improvement over the old 10 Megabyte rack mounted ones that only had one removeable platter!

I have seen them all and worked on most, IBM, DEC, Data General, Xerox, the list goes on!

I am still amazed at the techological advances we have made.

Now I sit at home and build websites with a few friends and drive the wife nuts! What could be better then this!

Here is a littel trivia for you, "What is bi-mag technology?" Any guesses?

If love to talk old hardware and have some old relics lying around. If you ever have any questions about some of the Old stuff, I'd be happy to answer them for you. Just contact me, windfall1130@hancock.net, and I'll be happy to answer them for you, if I can.
