We started a website that gives you so much more than Microsoft's Netmeeting and also Webex.com. We allow video conferencing, remote controlled webcams (allowing anyone to pan, tilt, rotate and zoom), whiteboard (Microsoft Paint built in), ICQ/Chat also.
THE INTERVIEW:
Steve Cook wanted to check up on his dog while he was away. That’s why he started 321cam. It's a web site that lets you watch live pictures from a computer.
You can see your pets, and almost anything else at which you can point a camera. You don't need to buy special software, or your own web site. Just download the program, and then you can see the pictures you produce or pictures others have on the site.
"It's a community where everybody would put their broadcast onto it and everybody, friends and family would see it," Cook said.
If you don't want everyone to see it, you can have your image password protected. Our webcams can even be remotely controlled (pan, tilt, rotate and zoom).
What has never been done before, our webcams go into sleep mode if there are not any viewers watching it, thus saving bandwidth. Once a viewer comes on, the webcam instantly starts broadcasting to the internet again automatically.
Web cams are nothing new, but what's novel about this one is the price. It's free for an image that updates every 10 seconds. But if you want streaming video then it costs $10 a month.
"People want instant gratification, you don't get that with our free plan, so there is a hook in there too, to get them to voluntarily signup to faster plans," Cook said.
To view the faster images you need a computer that's less than five years old and a camera. That can cost another $30 to $300.
