Default phpBB forum upgrade::: cPanel, tar file and MySQL questions.

This is security related, so I post it here.

I have started to upgrade my phpBB based forum.

Background: Here http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...67475#p8567475 is the thread at the phpBB forum.

You don't need to read the whole tread. The few last posts should be enough.

The problem is to restore the old forum on the root without overwriting the add on domains in the full backup in the cPanel. I think I can not use that option.

7-Zip did a partly job since it decompressed .tar.gz files to .tar files. Not the full job.
  1. Now I am on my old Xp computer where winzip is the default and only unzipper as far as I know.
  2. My new Vista, network connected laptop is another option if tar files can be unzipped on that computer.
  3. Dreamveaver is installed on the old computer, and it takes time to start the laptop, and send files between the two computers, so
  4. since this may be a recurring problem on my Xp computer, I am looking for a download able free tar.gz file unzipper that restores the original Dreamweaver files.
  5. I had a similar problems some years ago, and was sent in an endless loop of tar unzipper downloads that seemingly did the job. But either you had to buy the program like this http://www.datanumen.com/atr/ (you see the unzipped files, but can not use them without buying the program) one or it did not do the job.
