Thumbs up Are Free Website Counters Safe...?

Greetings All...

Has anyone had any experiences with Free Website Counters? I want to monitor the amount of visits to my site, but I'm concerned the free counters are just "come ons" from others sites that do their own kind of "monitoring".

Any Ideas, Suggestions, or Leads to a safe counter?

Thanks all,

dEAN

With any 3rd party site you have to wonder what they do with the data. You would need to have your own monitoring software to keep others from seeing who visits your site.

google.com/analytics is based on Urchin which is awesome. The free version uses their javascript snippets. But then again you are giving all your tracking information to google. The claim not to be evil but you don't know what they're doing with your sites traffic info.

I agree! It is important to track your websites activities and hits and it's nice if you will get the service for free. However, that's the dis-advantage from a free service, 3rd party companies can see your data and some important info. just like a free hosting service. It's better to get shell out extra bucks for it.
