Default Anti Virus Software & Dell

All,
Not a major topic, but I use sophos as my AV as it is free from work. I also use Dell to purchase computers from as they are good value.
Anyway, Dell medic occasionally pops up and offers good advice about removing startup applications that are not needed anymore. The application removed was my auto-update of sophos from our University.

Moral: Don't trust all trusted users.

While I am on the subject; if you ever want to login to a users laptop, but don't know the password, start through safe mode, usually you will find that the administrator password has not been set. Why bother with anti-virus software anyway??

I am sure the same goes for normal PCs, you all may want to check this out.
Best
Kevan

Default F8 is safe mode

All,
I know it is sad replying to ones own post - but to use safe mode, just restart the PC and keep hitting the F8 function key whilst starting up.
When, finally the administrator login appears, try and logon without a password, If you can, then I recmmend adding a password to this account ASAP.

Dell usually comes with McAfee, doesn't it?. I am not sure why anyone would not sacrafice 2 lunches/yr for live automatic updates all year long.

Default DELL SUX!

OK, I've talked to a couple ppl (This is totally off subject but I need to vent) and they've said Dell's great, but they've also never had any problems with them. They are hte best deal out there with good quality stuff. I purchased a laptop for graphic design, and it for 6 hrs, and it died on me. They said either the ram or the motherboard was ruined. The laptop was 1100, I paid 450 for the 4 yr warranty and onsite tech support. After almost 2 weeks of phone calls and promises my ram (which might not have even been the issue in the first place) would be shipped next day air, it never happened. I told them, I want a refund if it's not here tomorrow. The tech called, said it was being overnighted and he'd be here, yeah the part never came in and the tech couldn't show up that day. So I got a refund and sent it back.

Have you ever had any issues with Dell and did they help you with them?
Yes, Dell's laptops come with mcafee
