Default Norton Ghost 10

I purchased this s/w recently. I cannot do a backup/recovery point onto my CD RW drive. I was able to do an initial backup of my HD onto the HD, pretty useless if I crash, but at least I know that works. Plus, my drive was almost 50% full, so now I have very little HD space left.

Been in contact with their customer support several times, no luck

So far, this is what I've tried:

1) Install, uninstall, reinstall several times.
2) Verified that my drive is supported
3) Verified that the many CDs I tried to use were fine
4) Did a Windows Cleanboot
5) Updated CD drive drivers
6) Updated configuration files
7) Ran chkdsk on my HD (no problems)
8 ) I don't have Norton Goback on my PC
9) Verified with tech support that I used all the correct options

This is the error message I get:

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Complete System Backup -- Unable to open a new track for writing on removable media. Be sure that the media is compatible with the device and that it is properly inserted. The device must also support either variable or fixed packet writing.

I'm running XP Pro, if that makes a difference.

I'm at a loss here! Any suggestions?

TIA!

don't get mad at me, but I have to ask -

when you say verify the many cd's you have tried are good....

Have you actually went to the store and purchased a different brand of media?

I ran into something similar with a buch of cd's I had ordered in for my store - they would burn just fine with most programs, but some of them would not see that there was even a blank cd in the drive.

Sometimes then too certain systems had trouble reading them after burning too.

We tried everything, new drivers, new burning software, new burners and always had the same results until we stopped using/selling that media.

Now, why would I be mad at you? I appreciate somebody talking the time to think on this with me :)

Yes, I went and bought brand new CDs, a different brand. I also am able to write onto the CDs, using XP-Pro's CD writer, so I'm quite sure that they are not the problem.

Would you have any other suggestions? I mean, I've spent quite a bit of money, buying 4 boxes of CDs each time :(, and at this point I really don't know what else to do.

Thank you![/quote]

Are your sure that it has created an image yet? And is the compressed image small enough to fit on a cd?

I'm not sure really, I use ghost but generally just one hd to another.

good luck
