Default Links from an external page

Links from an external page
Recently I found many unusual links from external pages in my site stats; for example online casino's etc. For example:
-http://online-casino-gambling.casino-light.com-
-http://www.trade-ideas.com/Banners/StockTicker5.html-
-http://www.computerxchange.com/poker-online.html-
-http://www.blevensdamman.com/roulette.html-
-http://www.madesukadana.com/empire-poker.html-
-http://www.computerxchange.com/online-poker.html-
-http://www.agribrokerindia.com/online-casinos.html-
I tried to trace these addresses with WHOIS but can't - as I thought to ban their IPS No's. I tried also to find links to my site on these sites without success. I can't understand why they such sites would like to mine as their is no relationship to gambling on my site.

I have check that hot link protection is fully active by running 3rd party hot link tests - so this isn't the issue. I just wonder why these so unrelated sites have a link to my site??

To find the external links to your site go to Google and in the search box type link:www.yourdomainname.com and it will take you to the links on their site.

Good luck!

Di :)

I have em too, as do many other sites. Its referrer spam. Many sites, improperly, have their stat pages indexed by search engines. So these links will be indexed by google and be considered backlinks.

Default Links or stealing Bandwidth

Thank you Di for the reply.

Couldn't find any of the casino links in Google Link: command, wonder why these sites are showing up in my stats as linked to mine?

Very strange indeed. I am using hot linking so that should stop images and html hot-linking.

I really can't come to terms why these sites should be linked to mine as there is no connection at all regarding content, there must be no benefit for them. I wonder if they are stealing bandwidth?

No prob - actually not that much work. If you need to EVER get the skinny on IP's or DNS info, always start here:

http://www.dnsstuff.com

This place is where all the uber-geeks start when tracking down the cretins that p*ss away our time by having to figure out who they are.

On the stale DNS part - be sure to find out what your stats package is using to do the reverse DNS lookup and that it is getting frequently refreshed - it can cause you to get false URL info if the user of the actual IP address has changed (like to a new URL).
