Fingertip security?

Hey, I just bought one of those fingerprint things which acts as your log in for various accounts, e.g. email, paypal, forums etc. In fact i just used it to log onto WPW.
It works pretty well, although i have the audio turned off as that got a bit annoying.
I'm not sure how secure it makes things. I guess it stops someone that has stolen my comp from accessing my accounts but i dont think it stops someone from hacking my account from another computer. When i bought it i was think ah now if someone wants to hack my accounts they will have to hack off my finger, i dont think that is the case afterall.
