Default webhost uptime monitoring

I would like to set up monitoring on my webhost since it's hell too often unavailable.

I never saw my site down but my users do say it often is.

So is there any uptime monitoring or sort of it? I found alerta and websitepulce.

I use http://www.serviceuptime.com
Very reliable and have many good features. They allow one service monitoring free lifelong and never delete statistics.

I'm using premium account and very happy with it.

Default We use GNW

We use GlobalNetWatch (www.globalnetwatch.com), primarily because they had an office locally and salespeople came to visit us after finding us online. They alert me via text message to my cell phone when something goes down, which fortunately has only been twice in the last 18 months. We were impressed with the number of data centers they used, number of major backbones, and the reporting features.

Be careful as some services just send a ping to monitor. That's a good indicator if your internet connection is up, but Apache crashed on our server once and pings still responded while nothing came up when you tried to go to our site. GNW tries to pull your homepage, which for us tests our database connection, Apache, and our ISP all at once.

I tried to get free trial from GNW but seems they are not giving the trials to everyone or I will have to wait more before they reply.

Anyway, I tried serviceuptime and like it very much. I now use their lifelong free account but may upgrade to premium if there is no problems with them this week. So far my uptime statistics looks very realistic and very close to the truth. At least it shows the downtime that I really had. I also tried their SMS alerts and it came within several seconds after site went down.

One day later they replied asking my identity info and other required information to set up my trial. I really don't think it's a good approach. Now I can imagine how their support works.

-Hi, my monitoring stoppped. What happened?
-Sir, what's you account name? your password? Your social security number?...

Which company replied with that? GNW just wanted a contact person when we set it up, then wanted our tax id when we got set up as a customer. Maybe they changed policies, but they at least weren't that way when we got set up with them a year and a half ago. Maybe it is different when their salespeople pay you a visit.

I've never needed to call their support, but when my boss called to try it, they asked for company name and username. That was all that GNW wanted from us.

Check out http://www.alvias.com I've been signed up with the company for just under 3 weeks. They are new on the scene from what I gather but they are free and I have been happy with the notifications I received when my site was down. Other webmaster friends of mine have also started to have their monitoring down through alvias. It's solid.

I came across some testing website. They rated monitoring services and the one I use is on the first place. Good choice of mine :)

www.serviceuptime.com has also added advertising ability to all users so you may now have back link from their website. It is called LOGO Advertising.
