Default Antivirus Software.

We currently use Sophos for a network of about 45 PCs on 2 sites, and I have no major complaints aout it, apart form the fact it is quite expensive.

Does anyone have any experience of AVG antivirus from grisoft.com in a networked environment?

(I have installed the stand alone, free version of AVG on a few home PCs for other people, and it seems to work well).

As an aside, does anyone else think that if you are paying top dollar for anti virus software, that it should ALSO protect you from spyware? Is this too much to ask?

Thanks for this. Lots of info to read through. Looks like AVG is more or less the best bet for a single user at least.

But I am still not sure how good it is on a medium sized network... So if anyone has experience of same, I would love to hear their opinions as well.

I've recommend AVG forever for single users but, thanks to family - I've recently discovered that AVG works FANTASTIC on a network. They're happy, I'm happy - what more can ya want ;)

I'm not a fan of Norton's or McAfee - never have been - but if you use them in associations with AVG, you decrease more malware.

P.S. Most anti-virus programs detect and remove spyware - except keyloggers and a couple of other culprits. It still doesn't hurt to have adware and spyware removers ;)

I have been using AVG Network edition now with approx 40 users for about 6 months - and have had no major problems (there are some minor niggles like the remote install onto a new PC not working very well).

But all in all it is very good value - more than 50% cheaper than Sophos Antivirus - and their support is better than Sophos as well.

I'm trying to encourage our company to sell AVG rather than Norton. McAfee seems to be good for networks but I've never liked Norton for anything. What do you think would be good points to make to my boss about AVG?

It works.

It's Cheap.

Licensing is a fair and simple model.

Email support is reasonably good.

Boss says 'It's not recognised in the Industry'. I guess we'll have to keep selling shitty Norton to customers. One thing I did notice about AVG though is that they're selling a 2 year licence for pretty much the price of a normal 1 year licence. Looks pretty good to me =)

What about this review?

"BitDefender's startup guard will tell you if a program is trying to load itself upon start up so you can choose to allow it or not. This software suite also comes with adware and spyware detectors. Though we recommend using an antispyware scanner, as they are designed specifically for this purpose, it is nice to have two programs working towards a common goal, to keep your computer clean".

The cheapest standard edition, has the top rating.

"BitDefender 9 Professional Plus now includes antispyware protection".
