HackersCatalog.com
I just found this site while browsing google.
How can a site like this not be illegal. I do believe in freedom of press and speech, but this site isn't speaking, its selling.

I wouldn't trust them to provide real 'hacker' information. Just from the appearance of the site, It will reach the 'script kiddies' they're aiming for though, and they will make a few bucks, but they'll never earn the respect of true hackers.
Real hackers sites are better designed and offer useful tools and information. Plus, they usually offer it for free.
Come to think of it, there's something you might find interesting:

Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager
Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"...
Damn kids. They're all alike.
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain,
ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what
made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?
I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of
the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...
Damn underachiever. They're all alike.
I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain
for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms.
Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."
Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.
I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is
cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I
screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me...
Or feels threatened by me...
Or thinks I'm a smart ass...
Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.
And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through
the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is
sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is
found.
"This is it... this is where I belong..."
I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to
them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...
Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...
You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at
school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip
through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or
ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us will-
ing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.
This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the
beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying
for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and
you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek
after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color,
without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals.
You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us
and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.
Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is
that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.
My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me
for.
I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual,
but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.

I have no respect for script-kiddies, virus writers, malware merchants or anyone else who claims to be a hacker but does it for the wrong reasons. There are legitimate hacker sites out there. They offer valuable tools that SA's and NA's use.
And ..... I'm getting on my again.
This site is just as legal as all the porn sites, the illegal drug sites, and any other site that we'd naturally question. On the internet, at the moment, there's no rules against it.

Re: HackersCatalog.com
I don't think I would be so vicious in my attack against hackersatalog.com. They have been in business for several years and quite honestly, provide some service to those who seek out a beginning place to learn about hacking. I have read your post and you claim to be a master. However, I am not and others viewing this are not, therefore a site like hackerscatalog.com and so on do provide a service that can help.
It has helped me in the fact that I was able to learn about some things happening in my household from our son. Getting some advice by one of the sales staff ended up in me getting there guide to hacking 2008. There I was able to learn about some things happening around our place. I then picked up another title and from them, meaning hackerscatalog.com. I have learned and gained an interest in the hacking field for education.
So, To answer the other persons question, I feel a site like this is perfectly legal, it does supply information you can't find anywhere else and it doesn't mean you are going to hack into something illegal, it can be and is used for perfectly legal things, Including educating an old fart like me. Hats off to hackerscatalog.com.

Re: HackersCatalog.com
I would try them out, as my earlier post suggests, they are a good place to start when your old like me to learn about hacking and the vaste subjects. Our problem at home was corrected with the knowledge received from hackerscatalog.com. They have plenty to choose from and there prices are fair. So to bash them for there business methods isn't quite fair as they do provide a service and have for some time.

Re: HackersCatalog.com
Just at a first glance, I would say the site doesn't look quite savory, but it doesn't look too different from some of the hacker sites I have seen, many of which were created over ten years ago and haven't been redesigned since. I don't really see anything particularly illegal about the site content. However, I think there are many better resources for security and hacking information, such as 2600 and CERT.
Then I notice that this is a thread from 2004...
