Default Cannot reinstall IE6 so I can view html source

I am running windows 2000 pro
My IE6 has problems:

I cannot view source.

If I export cookies, it will fix it for about 3 web visits, then view source shuts down and nothing happens when I click View Source.

Brower hijacker problems may be related because I ran several spyware remover programs and found spyware, probably something reinfects everytime I reboot.

So I am trying to reinstall IE6 but I get the message
"a previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot". So I went to microsoft and did everything suggested there, editing the registry etc. but still no view source.

I badly need ideas how to get around the "previous installation hs pending work" message, so that I can reinstall IE6.

Thank you, thank you!

Are you trying to reinstall IE6 from the website? Or from a saved file?

You ran spyware removal programs - what programs?
What about adware removal and virus programs? Do you have them and did you run those?

I have several ideas here. I haven't got Win2K handy, so bear with me if the folder names are not quite right. I suspect that rundll.dll is not unloading, or else the windows installer.

If you open taskmanager, by right clicking on the toolbar at the bottom of your desktop, and open task manager. If you see anything like the two names above, right click on them and choose "end process', then ignore the warnings because they happen no matter what, and these two processes are not important.

Then try to reinstall IE.

If those aren't there in task manager try this:
Go to your 'WINNT\INF' folder and located a file called 'sysoc.inf'. Then click on it and it will open with notepad.
Next, in Notepad, open the 'edit' menu at the top, second left in the menu. Choose "replace", and type "hide" (without the quotes) in the find box and leave the replace with box emty. then click 'replace all' and you are done, just go back to the top and under "File", pick 'save' and close Notepad.

Now go to 'Settings\control panel\add-remove programs, and all the Internet Explorers should be listed. Then remove them, after you have downloaded a replacement from windows, and saved it to your desktop, or wherever you usually save your downloads.

If this all doesn't help, or if I am unclear or don't make sense, let me know, and I will realy get to the bottom of this with you! :O)
