it appears that spammers are using my emaill add. as their return address. how can i prevent this?

As stated in many of these threads, there is nothing that you can do about it - just ride the wave and wait for them to stop doing it.

Make sure that that the e-mails are not coming from your machine.
Millions of windows machines have been hijacked and are used to distribute spam messages.
This can be seen by viewing source in the email and if your machone has been compromized your have work in front of you.
