Real Spam

I got a letter in the mail, from someone who took my address from my website, and then started sending junk mail to my real address. I guess there is just no rest.

On top of that it was an advertisment to submit my site to 30 search engines for like $50. I dont think I would want to pay for this ever, especially since submitting doesn't do anything, and since I am a web designer, SEO, etc, I really don't need help getting my site listed, which they found in google in the first place. Then I got the urge to sign up for 200 newsletters, but I think I entered my email incorrectly, and used theirs. Oops...

Well I hope you managed to filter out the correct email address from their spam emails. The real originator is often masked in some devious way, or has an address that is dynamically created, and is different each time a fresh load of spam is sent. They may even have commandeered someone's legitimate email account for the purpose of spamming.

Worst case scenario would be that the address you found is that of an innocent individual who is now in receipt of 200 newsletters.

So it could even lead to an escalation of the spam in circulation.

All I'm saying is... I hope you got the right addy!! :o)

No, I made very sure that it was the people who the spam originated from. I would do anything like that if I had any doubt as to whether it was the right person who sent it.

I've been getting a lot of email and postal spams due to the info in my whois record. I'd recommend putting a space on both sides of the @ in your listed email address, or change it to one that is a permanent junk email shredder.

Also put a different, backup contact postal address. That way you don't have to deal with their pseudo-bills.

From two years ago:

Between 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday I received 151 pieces of spam, or e-mail junk mail, in my corporate in-box. As you might guess, my e-mail address is completely--and I fear permanently--polluted.
