Top generic domain name AutomobileParts.com has sold for $70,000 at a recent Florida web address auction.
Featuring among several generic domain names which fetched big money offers from eager buyers, AutomobileParts.com was one of the top 20 sales tabled at Moniker's Miami domain name auction.
Although not commanding the same appeal as Computer.com, whose generic domain name for a hugely popular product made it the $2.2 million top seller, AutomobileParts.com showed the value of product-specific names in all sectors.
The products in question may be more niche, but automobile parts were considered by buyers to be something web searchers would frequently type into the address bar on web product searches, making the name a valuable asset.
Monte Cahn, co-founder and chief executive of Moniker, hailed the eternal appeal of top domain names that help to launch a company in its sector, the more product-specific the name is. "The success of the live auctions is proof that the premium domain market will continue to
grow and that businesses understand the importance of premium domains to their business," he said.
