Default Internet Explorer 7 is not gaining browser market share

Microsoft made IE7 a compulsory update through their Windows Update feature. But I'm not seeing the effect of this on my web stats. Over 50% of my visitors still use IE6. I see IE7 and Firefox 1.5 battling it out on a day-to-day basis, sometimes IE7 is above Firefox 1.5 and at times I had more Firefox 2 hits than IE7 hits. This battle is going on in the other half of my visitors while IE6 remains the number one browser at all times. I see a bigger percentage of Firefox 1.5 users voluntarily switching to Firefox 2 than IE6 users switching to IE7 while IE7 is a compulsory update if you want to keep WinXP up to date. Does this only prove that users never use the update feature or are users staying away from Windows Update only to keep the bug ridden IE6? Are there any other web masters experiencing this trend or is it only me?

I wanted to upgrade mt web browser. I had IE5.So, I downloaded IE7 thinking that it would be mre fast than the previous. But, sorry to say , it is fast, but not as my expectation was. Then I had to download firefox 2 and it is really fast.

Firefox 2 has a couple of instability problems, because it crashes a lot, but this do not seem to be critical security threats. I believe this will be fixed with the first update of FF2, but even with all these crashes Firefox still remains your best bet. And if you don't like the crashing you can still use the more stable FF 1.5, even FF 1.5 is better than IE7.

Neville Hobson hosts a post from Stuart Mudie, co-author of The Unofficial Guide to Windows Vista:

I did a Google search the other day for “IE7 sucks” and received around 14,000 results - not bad for a product that’s little more than a month old. (By way of comparison, “Firefox 2.0 sucks” returned just over a hundred results.)

Interesting if somewhat amusing information...

He goes on to point out the good things about IE7 however and notes that Microsoft is "on the right track".
