Internet Industry The Internet is about more than e-Business; it's a physical and virtual industry. Its wide variety of topics include spam, government regulation and taxation, breaking news, e-business trends, legal issues, and much more.

Default Is the WWW Infinite?

This question kind of takes on a couple of perspectives.

1. Is the WWW Infinite? Is there an end? Will it reach an endgame?
It would seem to me that the WWW must have a carrying capacity. Are we hastening the endgame with slack coding, spam, etc, etc? If indeed it has a carrying capacity, are we creating an Internet industrial era? It seems to me that a pretty good job is being done with polluting it.

2. Does the Internet needs a governing body to ensure its prosperity?
My immediate answer would be yes. But, for it's protection rather than for its morality. I was reading an article:
Quote:
Most Chinese computers are infected by viruses, according to a survey by the Ministry Of Public Security (www.fas.org/irp/world/china/mps). The report found that 85% of computers were affected by viruses in 2003 - an increase of 1.59% on 2002 and 25-27% on 2001. Viruses caused significant data or financial loses to 63% of people surveyed, indicating that such infections are still the main threat to the security of China's information network. The study blamed lack of prevention awareness amongst users for the problem. (Netguide)
I can honestly see the same problem happening with the World Wide Web. I still get about 50% of my clients ringing on a weekly basis because they havent updated virus software. So these results could be easily achieved on the WWW if this is any indication. Files are flying everywhere across the net these days with no thought of where they come from.

And security is only a portion of the net that needs governing. Spam...ugg...we dont need to go into that! Buggy sites that constantly cause OS's to crash. Viruses & spyware on sites. The list goes on. There WILL come a time when the WWW needs a regulatory authority. IMO, not either UN or US.

So, is the WWW infinite & does it need protecting?
