Time Savers
Let's face it, we're living in a very high pace society these days. It can rattle couples that both work, or singles. So we try and find the easy or quicker way to do things all the time. Making computers portable & more affordable brought a new realm into our lives. The Internet did us proud when it automated so many things in life.
Yet, somehow, we are still a busy society. Why, because as we reach new horizons, we then want to reach out to more. So we have increased our workload again.
Now some can tackle this with ease, they breeze through it. Some are multitasker junkies (myself), and often have many things on go at one time. Some find it harder to concentrate on more than one thing at a time, or don't want to twist their life in knots trying to keep up (which is what I should be doing!).
So it got me thinking. There are probably many shortcuts people take with computers that others might not know about. Even as far as what everyday services can be accessed online to save time. Even to those pros out there, how many people do you think automatically know all those keyboard shortcuts. I know it has taken me years & I will still always find another one.
So, lets see how many computer/internet decisions we can make to SAVE TIME. It can be anything that will save someone time on the computer, the Internet, or how people can save time in real life with time savers on the Internet.
I'll start with one that has made all the information on the forum easier for me to retain as a resource, without having to go back & search for topics. This works for PM's also for in/sent/outboxes. This is especially handy when you are working on a project and want to save information from lots of different topics & PM's. (I only know this working in MS Word-so you can try it in others)
1. Open a new document in MS Word. For saving forum posts set the layout to 'landscape', for saving PM's it can stay at 'portrait'.
2. Save document with whatever title.
3. Go to forum post or PM, and highlight from the beginning of the top cell of that post (or page). examples:
Saving a whole page of a thread, you would highlight from before the topic title to the end of the last post at bottom of page.
Saving one part of a post, you would highlight from before where it says Author to end of message box.
Saving a PM (Private Message) you would highlight from before the word 'From' to end of message box.
4. Go to 'Copy' to copy it. (for most you can right click for this on highlighted section)
5. Go to the opened document in Word, and click 'Paste'
6. Then Save.
You can then go on to save as many under or over that post as you like.
This is also especially handy too if you get a lot of PM's, you can use it as a reference point as to who you have replied to and who you havent. Delete them as you reply to them. Or, if your PM boxes get too full, and there are many PM's you want to keep...you can archive them this way too.
If you want to shortcut further... create a shortcut from the file you created to your desktop. That way you can open it quickly even when offline. (warning: dont creat too many shortcuts on desktop though, it makes your startup slower.)

Cool topic, I 'collect' tips and tricks.
Drag the icon from the address window of browser with left mouse button onto your desktop to create a shortcut that opens to that page when clicked later.
(remember to 'drag' them to recycle bin when done or your screen becomes a mess)
Also, if you have several 'favourites' that you use most the time, put them all in one folder in your 'bookmafks' or 'favorites' in IE. Then go to 'File" (top left, munu bar) and select 'Import and Export' from the dropdown list. Up comes a 'wizard' and you then pick 'Export Favorites', next select your folder that you just created, and export to your desktop!
Then when you want to go right to one of several pages (I have WPW, my site, Google, my local weather, and a couple of others that I frequently go to), you use the html doc that was created just like a 'home page' from your desktop.

little e
Left clicking the "little e" will give you the option to mimimize, maximize, or close the Internet Explorer Window. This might come in handy when you get one of those really annoying pop-up Windows where the tool bar is now showing and there is no apparent way to close the Window. Our you might just think it's a cool way to maximum the Window, minimize the window, or close the window. One thing for sure, you can show your friends this tip and most likely they'll not have even noticed the little "e". You think?

http://provider.com/contracts.htm
This is a good topic/thread, I would like to see more people share their timesaving tips. I have added a resource that can be a godsend to new businesses and freelancers here. If you are like me, yopu are not experienced in contracts, and these templates are free, and cover area's that I wasn't even aware existed.
I've found some of these to help ME understand what all the parts to a web development project are as well as their primary purpose as legal documents.
Interesting reading, I must say. :o)

Time savers
Hi there,
I've always been a bit of a keyboard freak - a mouse (white) is something my kids have in a cage :-)
Jokes apart. Pressing Alt-Space you get the small menu for minimizing, maximizing, restoring and closing the active window. As well I've found Alt-F4 extremely usefull for those pop-up windows that moves all over the place.
I've got more weird short-cuts on stock, but then I would have to start thinking - and THAT'S difficult, I'll post more when I remember.
Regards from Spain

In your web browser (I use Netscape 7), drag the little bookmark or icon next to the URL to your favorites/bookmark folder and release. That makes a quick bookmark automatically. In NS, you can even drag it to a subfolder for immediate filing.
Also in NS, hold the CTRL key when clicking a link on a webpage, and that link will open in a new tab. *Very* handy for keep your place and/or seeing a bunch of pages at once.
In a Web browser (I think IE does this too), press ALT and the LEFT arrow will do the same as clicking the BACK button. ALT and RIGHT arrow will go foward. ALT and HOME key will take you to your default home page.
In a text file, and pretty much any word processing program: Press CTRL and A to highlight (select) the entire text at once. CTRL C of course copies it, and CTRL V pastes it somewhere else.
Also in text/word processing files:
- END key takes your courser to the end of the line
- HOME key takes it to the beginning of the line
- CTRL HOME takes it to the beginning of the document
- CTRL END takes it to the end of the document
That's all I can think of at the moment :)

The first post in this thread just reminded me of another tip:
In pretty much any program, browsers included, you can double click a word to highlight it. And if you triple click (click three times quickly in a row), you'll highlight the entire line.

It also has the 'Move' command on that menu, and if you press the 'm' key after the 'alt-spacebar', you can then use the arrow keys to move the window.
I find this very handy for windows that appear partially off-screen that I cannot use my mouse to move. It usually happens after I resize my screen to a smaller resolution after coding or working.
I really like keyboard shortcuts. Good stuff, everybody.

Tired of typing the www. and .com in the address bar? Just type in the name of the site, ex: webproworld, hold down the control key and hit enter,it will automatically add the www. and.com! Very handy!

No need to type in www or http
I use mozilla and explorer and you do not even have to type in the http:// or the www. simply type in the domain name and it works the same.
Example: buckeyeads.com
You will go to the site!
