Default Pop up blockers

Can anyone suggest a good pop-up blocker to download?

And ... just FMI, why do I get pop-ups on my screen when I don't even have a web browser window open (I have cable internet)? I can leave my computer and have 50 open IE windows when I return.

I feel like a dummy for asking - but any answers are appreciated. Thank you!

Well. most likey you have spyware on your computer
You should download Adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com . Look for the free one. It'll get rid of them for you. Also, you should do a virus scan as well, just incase. When you're on a cable connection, you're more suseptible. You should also have a firewall.

Default popup stoppers

I've been pretty satisfied with Popup Stopper by Panicware ( http://www.panicware.com/ ). It has a keyboard bypass feature for those sites that have popups as part of their site functionality (microsoft, webproworld...<grin>).

HTH!

And ZoneAlarm also blocks pop-ups - very effectively.

I think this feature is only on the Pro version though.

If you don't already have a firewall, you need one. A couple of posts here mention Zone Alarm -- Norton Personal Firewall also blocks popups very effectively.
