I have been surfing with IE 5.0 but I changed to Mozilla because it is less prone to get a virus or a spyware, also itīs supposed to be faster, I know that the Opera browser is faster but there are a lot of reports of virus infection using this tool.
I ve been experimenting with the Mozilla Browser on Windows 98SE, but it is very slow compared against IE. Do you know how to configure it, in order to increase its performance? Regards |

While Firebird still isn't quite as quick to launch as IE 6.0, the other enhancements in its build and the terrific range of extensions easily compensate for that slight downside. Paul |

Hi leus,
You might want to check out this thread from the Mozilla Firebird forum: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=43911 - sounds as though the latest build (0.7+/0.8) is going to be a lot faster! :o) Paul |

If you are talking about load times, IE will always load faster, because components of IE are already running. When you have a non MS browser, it is loading from scratch. But as far as browsing, I havent really found a lot of difference in that department, except on pages that have complex coding, bad coding or some flash sites (well, I suppose that pretty much covers a lot of websites tho!). I havent, however, heard about Opera being more susceptible to virus infection. Could you elaborate on that? Thanks for the heads up on the new update for Firebird Paul! :-) Cindy

Hi, Mataury: First let me say that Opera today ranks number three among the most widely used Internet browsers, is small, super-fast & secure. Opera has been extremely responsive and quick to understand and patch vulnerability. They have shown that they truly do take security seriously. However during the past year I received the following reports: (I understad that All of them have been solved in the new 7.23 version). 1.- Opera's Security Model is Highly Vulnerable. Opera implements an incorrect caller-based model and allows external overriding of methods. 2.- Reading ANY local file in Opera. Opera's file element's security model can be circumvented. 3.-Opera exposes the last and next URLs in the browser's history. 4.-Opera permits indirect access to a list of URLs visited by the user in the current session. 5.-Reading ANY local file in Opera. Opera's file element's security model can be circumvented. Making a Resume, all these problems means an attacker can download any file from an unsuspecting Opera user, the attaker can spoof URLs (same problem of IE), the victim will have no problems accessing a malicious function created by the attacker, the attacker is able to trojanize the victim window with his own code and simply wait for the victim to execute it. I repeat that ALL OF THEM have been properly solved. Best Regards |
