With some of the recent sales like Men.com http://<br />
http://www.cnn.com/20....ap/index.htmlat a $1.3 mill and Casinos.com http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/Dom...es11_04_03.htmsold for $5.5 mill we will now see keyword domains again selling for big money and the start of a new boom that is not like the first one but one that will be going up slowly with time. All the internet sales are up, so for new businesses you need a very good domain name. One thing is to get listed with a bad domain name on all the search engines and another thing is for everyone that go's to your bad domain name from that search engine, likes what you are selling but doe's not bookmark your site then a month later wants to buy something at your web site go's back to the search engine and forgot what keyword he entered or that your web site is not listed that month in the same page as before, so now you just lost a customer. But if you are a Men.com, Loans.com, Casinos.com or any great domain name that is easy to remember, spell they will know were to go.
What is this worth, will it all depends on what your company sells and how big do you want to be. You can spend millions on a domain name or advertising and never get the sales and income to pay back what you spent, but that is NOT the domain names fault but the owner's business plan. Also what happens to the company that owns that bad domain name that you and i can't remember if you see it on a billboard or a company car or truck, you are losing customers everyday. A very good domain name is worth every penny. The .com is important but not as important as an easy domain name that everyone can remember, like I own http://www.WallStreet.usnow I know that you are NOT going to forget this domain name so the value is great. I also think that the .us which is the United State country code domain name is just starting to take off and there are still so many great one's out there. All great one word domain names are just going to go up in price. And the very good easy to remember two word domains are also going up. So if you find one get it now.

Years ago when I got my first domain 'activnet.org' I liken domain registration to buying good real estate. Over the years it has come to be exactly that. I often have a pickaboo at what domains are selling for, and there are some definate Park Lane addresses there.
But like you say, if you are going to spend mega on the domain name, you best be sure that you have backups funds to make it pay for itself. Cindy

The domain name is just a part of the business, you also need the backup funds for advertising, you also need good products at good prices. If you have the good products at good prices and they are products that are in demand then to be big you need a very good domain name that is easy to remember and spell. I like domains that if you were driving at 55 miles an hour and see the advertisment on a billboard that you will remember that domain name when you get home or to your job.
