Default Aliant Dial-up Accelerator False Advertising

ALIANT SHOULD BE SUIED FOR FRAUD ON THIS ADDVERTISMENT....
ALIANT DIAL-UP ACCELERATOR
Ready for an accelerated experience? Surf and email up to 5x faster - $4.95/Month

Let me explain just how this works...
This accelerater is not accelerating any thing..What it is doing is taking away from the sites that you view..so instead of looking @ a site that is suppose to be pretty & have animations that move..It take away from the look of the pictures & the animation will not move..So what is the sence of surfing the net if things are not gonna look like how they are suppose to...Instead of looking @ a crisp clean colorful picture you are going to see a drab discolored versions of what the pictures suppose to look like...This to me is frad..Because they are advertising that this ACCELERATOR is accelerating your speed & in actuality it is not!

Just go available, known and respected DSL or cable modem... that's all there is to it!

I have been waiting 2-3 years now to get high speed..Rogers said it would be here like 2-years ago & it still hasn't happened yet..I got a star choice satilite only because they said they were going to have satilite internet & then that didn't happen ither. I hate being on dialup because can't download any thing that i want to..but yet i have no choice. I tried american satilite company's & they said they would love to give us satilite but our lovely canadian government won't allow them to use our air space to give us satilite internet.& then there is bellexpress view that our government expects people to use & with that you still have to tie up your phone line to surf & then they only give you enough download time that i know i would use in 1 day..I am getting really fustrated with the dial up & it's really not fair that i have no other options..

It's not only Aliant. Any of the dialup ISP's that offer "accelerated" speeds use the same technique. Moons ago I used AT&T dialup and tried the accelerated service for a while, which fortunately didn't cost extra at the time. It simply made graphic at a much lower resolution so pages would load a bit faster. It allowed you to adjust the settings of how low-res you wanted the graphics to go, along with a meter that showed expected acceleration and true acceleration.

But in reality, it's not true acceleration of your connection at all. It doesn't speed up the download of anything, it just alters what you're downloading, which is simply graphics. You still can't download movies or audio files any quicker. It's all still standard dialup. The only way to make the connection faster through the phone line is with a DSL connection. I'm really thankful to have DSL where I live. It's a shame in the 21st century high speed access isn't available everywhere. Who knows in a couple years, high speed won't be considered high speed anymore.

Best wishes getting broadband. I hope it happens soon for you. I feel your pain.

Do you have cable TV? If so maybe you might be able to get net access.

Default Country cable

What we have is what they call country cable which is not equipt to use digital or internet. That is through rogers. Our phone company is Aliant & they are taking forever to get high speed out here.I'm sorta wishing I had bought a house some where else. I had no clue that I wouldn't be able to get proper internet access when i bought my house. Dial up should be extinct along with the dinosaur.

Sounds like they have you between a hard rock and not much else. Guess you got to do what you got to do. I would have thought that you might be able to have dish services. One way to look at this is that at least you can surf. Not fast but at least you can. Well good luck in your dial up.

Default ISDN?

Does your phone company offer ISDN lines? While ISDN still is very slow (some say it's stands for It Still Does Nothing) compared to cable, DSL or sat, it can be better than dial-up. If you can get your phone company to install an ISDN line there are many National Dial-up Providers that can give you access to a single or dual channel ISDN line. Most do have a hours per month restriction but the few people that have used it through our company found it to be enough to meet their needs.

Also phone line quality is a big issue for those still forced to use d/u. Really old lines that have been tapped to the hilt will perhaps not sound bad when on the phone but won't support more than 28-38 k on a 56k Modem if your lucky. If you call the phone company (at least in CA) and complain, they'll tell you that they don't support more than 9 k!! What I tell my clients in this case is to complain about basic phone quality and NEVER mention internet and if you keep complaining and get your neighbors involved, they will eventually clean it up. It's a matter of playing the game.
