Default How do you sell an internet business?

Hi All,
This may sound stupid, but how do you sell an internet business? For example, I am thinking about selling a gift business website that I own. The website has been operating online for a couple of years, the site is in DMOZ and the drop shippers are in place.

How would one go about selling my biz? I have no idea which direction to start.
Thanks,
Michele

lol, on the internet of course :)

Not that simple though is it !!

Funny enough, I had the same problem.

Solution was; lots of time searching under terms like "businesses for sale" "buying a business", "selling a buisiness" etc etc. Lots and lots of place you can advertise your business for sale.

Also contact all your competitors and see if they want to buy you out ?? you never know.

Good Luck

Kane

One very general benchmark is to take the annual profit and multiply by 3.5. This is at least a starting point that people often use.

One benchmark often used is to take the annual profit (not revenue) and multiply by 3.5. This is a good starting point that has been used by many.

Michelle,

You might try posing this question to Catalyst and the marketing pros over at Affiliate Marketing - she's a gem and has a plethora of information and resources about these type sites and subjects.

In the interim:

Have you considered marketing it as a business for sale and not an Internet business?

Check out your local SBA (Small Business Admin) for more resources and ideas too!

Good luck - let me know how it goes - this is an interesting topic I've not seen a lot of good answers for; it'll be interesting to see how it pans out for you.

Default For Sale

I agree with Kane. When you want to sell your car, you stick a "For Sale" sign on it and drive around the place.

There are lots of avenues to advertise an internet business for sale, both online and off.

Best of luck.
