So, you are subtly hinting what exactly ... ?

But seriously, I was thinking of adding a forum to a website, and was *thinking* about phpBB, coz I like how it works here.

You may have saved me hunting around a lot - phpBB works, and you have gone back to it. Good enough for me.

Any suggestions for a newbie to phpBB?

Default yeah

Hi mate, yeah you can get the best skins here:

http://www.trushkin.com/

phpBB isn't as good as IPB, but at least they don't lie, telling people:

"oh, yeah it will always be free ..install the board ..get your WHOLE website running around it"

..and then saying:

"Ok, now we've released a version that can't be converted (we hope), so looks like you're all going to have to pay ..muahahahaha"

The other great thing about phpBB is that open source programmers love building mods for it, so if there's any board online that you want to find addons and software to work with, it's phpBB :)

I'm not against paying. I've purchased thousands of dollars worth of software. I'm just bitter because:

1). They lied

2). When they closed my threads, then banned me, then replied sarcastically when I was like wtf??*$ I lost my cool. It took me six months.

I used to host iKonboards (the early version of Matt's boards) and IPB's for people for free. I lived the community and like many thousands of other people I got shafted. Thrown out the door by the seat of my pants.

Stuff'em!

Cool, thanks for the link.

Yeah, I get the idea ...

If you deal with a corporate, you expect to pay but get a finished product, etc.

But if you are dealing with the community-based products "let's all get behind this and make it better and keep it free", you kinda expect it to stay that way. Anything else is ripping off your supporters.

Hopefully this won't be repeated with PHP, Linux, Apache, etc !!
