Right now I have the standard hosting package at ValueWeb.net. I am curious to see if you think I am paying too much for what I am getting. Also I am moving into eCommerce with the site. I am opening a merchant account with a company for $29.95 a month which includes the shopping cart and gateway however if sales are under $700 a month there is an additional $14.95 fee. Now for the next 7 days WalueWeb.net is running a special on the there Commerce package for $29.95 a month compared to $49.95 regularly which includes mySQL and more than twice the space as well as Miva Merchant, which is not compatible with the merchant account I am going to be getting but it still offers twice the space and mySQL which to add to the standard account is an additional $14.95 a month alone.
What do you think I should do? Should I go ahead and upgrade to the Commerce package? Should I change hosts? Should I use a different merchant system compatible with miva merchant? Any good advice would be helpful. Thank you |

What would you think about switching to the LEAN package at www.globalservers.com. ONLY $14.95 a month and 10 times the features though it seems. It also comes with unlimited domain pointers and 12 virtual host (which would be nice since I have 30 domains). Then I would just use the current merchant account that I was going to go with.
What do you think? Does this seem like the best move? What do you think about ww.globalservers.com's packages, ecspecially the LEAN package in general and compared to others? All help would be appreciated. Thank you |

I think the first and most important concern is support. Send the company an email asking some questions and then do a couple of follow ups.
As you are probably aware, hosting has become very competitive. Pricing and space come in all kinds of flavours. And the big number are primarily a marketing ploy(bigger is better). Webspace and especially bandwidth are one big virtual question-mark. Most websites won't even come close to the bandwidth allotted to them. Sure 30G is alot and sounds good, but to give you an idea, ofcourse it depends on page size, but 1G = 50,000 page views, and at 30G would be 15 million page views, so if you're thinking your site will compete at the same level as the big boys, then this would be a good deal for you. However most websites barely even touch 1 or 2G. Think of a landlord who offers you 5,000 sq.ft. of space , but you're only opening up a corner store and only require 500 sq.ft. That extra space just gets allotted to someone else until you decide to use it. Anyway, the bottom line is support. |
