Default Microsoft & Yahoo join to fight Google

Yahoo search will be powered by Microsoft's Bing, for at least the next 10 years.

Under the deal Microsoft will acquire an exclusive 10-year licence to Yahoo's core search technologies. It is also able to integrate Yahoo search technologies into its existing web search platforms.

In return Yahoo will keep 88 per cent of the revenue from all search ad sales on its site for the first five years of the deal, and will have the right to sell ads on some Microsoft sites.

Still needs final approval but does this mean Bing is a bigger threat to Google now?

This is end of Yahoo. It will slowly bleed to death.

It may be the end of Yahoo but the point is will the combination be effective against Google?

What benefit is this to consumers? Website owners?

On an unrelated note, maybe this deal will allow Yahoo to launch a y-phone, using all i-phone technology, but allow us who despise AT&T to use another carrier!?!?

Well the thought is.. Yahoo and Microsoft does combine but it doesn't mean
that Yahoo will lead.. and as for Bing maybe there is a chance but Google
was still on the lead..

I think that this has been decided and the deal done, if I am not wrong. Anyway the situation can be seen from 2 points:
1) Yahoo has lost a lot in the Search Fight with Bing and Google. They found a hard time in order to develop the business model and this deal with Bing is a saviour.
2) A desperate move of Yahoo not too well calculated.

This is my view on this.

I don't think it really matters. The only thing that can take on Google now is a completely new SE, kinda like Firefox was to IE.
