Search Engine Awards
Hope this is the appropriate forum for this:
4th Annual Search Engine Watch Awards
Google did real good, despite the alleged problems in the two recent updates.

Some of the comments made further down on the page about each SE is a good read.
I picked up this tip re AllTheWeb and have added it to my IE:
http://www.alltheweb.com/help/tools/msie#3
The search button is good for investigating a site.
I remember reading about this award in early January, and based on what I have read in several forums I was convinced that Google would 'crash and burn' big time. But, they got 70% of the votes - which to me means that most people are not unhappy with the Google results. (Second place only got 6%)

Actually, I'm not surprised by the results, only by that huge margin of victory.
In any "call-in" poll on a subject about quality of service, the people you hear from are primarily dissatisfied customers, not the ones who are happy with the service.
Notwithstanding all the complaints about Google in forums like this one, what I am seeing in most areas is improved search results on Google - I use search engines primarily for research and Google is still the service of choice for me.

I'm am soooo old
My favorite engine is Altavista. The one that DEC ran before they became part of Compaq, before they became part of HP.
Thank g-d the city of Altavista had a link to the search engine. I don't think I would have found the site otherwise.
Of course you could always send your web crawler out.
The google victory doesn't surprise me much.

It's not so bad...
It's nice to see that Google is finally getting it's dues... I know I have them as my homepage on my mac.. and at work.. I am a frequent user of the "I'm Feeling Lucky" Button... something most other search engines don't have.. well.. that I've noticed.. I haven't been on "Lycos" or "AltaVista".. lately, but it's because I haven't needed to... Google get's me where I need to go normally first time up...O.K... I'll get off Googles' ... well... you know the saying...ha ha...

Google is still the choice
As an search engine optimizer, like others before me, I was dissatified with Google recently, and I still think use of PR for ranking should be improved to make it fair for those new sites.
However, there's no surprise as to why Google came away #1 because it still is the search engine of choice for me, and it seems that I use less and less of other search engines.

Now we all know why more people complain about google.. I never complain about anyone else myself !It is extremely rare that I go anywhere else. So I shall keep predicting their downfall, until a better search tool comes along.
The one thing I do admire about Google, is that they know a better search engine will arrive one day, so they are always experimenting with different approaches to make it a more difficult task for someone to supercede them. This is the Great thing about google . . and why we complain.

Well done Google... But...
Once again the BIG search engines win...
What about smaller engines???
Are they not as good?
