I've read some recent speculation about Yahoo dumping their directory once they're using Inktomi full time.
Some argue that there are still too many directory users, that the directory still delivers relevant results. Others said that there's still too much revenue coming in from the webmasters who pay their $299 a year to get listed. What do you think? |

What would be the rationale behind dumping a cash cow that requires very little maintenance?
Each listing pays them $300 per year and there is much less expense after the first year. IF Yahoo has only 500,000 listings that is 150 million dollars per year for just keeping the servers running and the databases live. |
