But in the long run, a site without enough links may silently drown and finally die.

That's true if you let the content get stale. I had an old html site that was very difficult to manipulate. I just didn't have the time to change it. I left it be because indeed it was drawing traffic and sales. Over the Christmas holidays I decided I would make it my first order of business. The nice thing about it is that being an old site, it was constantly getting crawled already and the search engines really ate up the changes pretty quick. Usually when I launch a new one, I am looking at a 6 month 'sandbox' issue waiting for the search engines to kick in, but on this one, the results were night and day within a week. So, always think twice before killing old sites, google loves old....but yet fresh (kind've an irony)

Updating pages is very good SEO, removing dead links is imperative also.

One thing I have found out about "old sites", once G removes them from their main index to the invisible supplementals you will not see much action and those pages are not very likely to be re-included either once this happens.

Age of information is a large factor, G does not want 10 year old news in the main index in most cases.

News are mainly reported history (at least those that you read about in the newspaper), as long as it is not sent in real time. It is history 1 second after the reporting stops. Any day trader knows this.

Yesterday on Norwegian Tv:
  1. The Govenor of the Central Bank held the yearly speech.
  2. He worried about this years wage settlement in Norway and said the following (I completely agree). "When wages are settled, the parts have a tendecy to look in the mirror and not into the
  3. Uncertain future". The interst rate is not decresing in Norway, like it is in the USA and EU area. That implies potential problems for our economy in the near future.
  4. This year, the employee side of the wage settlement equation has signalled an agressive real wage increase.
  5. The Central Bank will then respond with an increase in the interest rate.
  6. An increase in the interest rate has future implications for our housing market.
  7. Same procedure as last year from the Central Bank.
SEO message:
Try to write Wiki inspired articles and collect quality links related to your story. Keep your links intact. You have to know your subject.

Linking seems to be the new, but indispensable tool for SEO.

New? Since Google's inception linking has been as important as content, I would venture.

New in the sense that in comparison with the other SEO tools, linking isn't that old.
