Default What I've taken from Garretts first day

Invaluable. That's what I would call Garretts first day at the Search Engine Strategies Conference. I am currently rebuilding my HTML pages and what I have taken from his postings are.
  • Link Exchange Request
Possibly on each page ask people with related content to exchange links.

    Proper Use Adjectives
Instead of just including the words "Pubs" or "Bars" it would seem the terms "traditional London Pubs" "Modern London Bars" etc. could return higher listings.

    Adwords
Keeping the background to Adwords the same colour as the site background.

    Text Links
Using different words that mean the same on different pages for navigation.

    Stemming
Using pub, public houses, pubs etc. in different sentences.

If I have misunderstood any of the above, hopefully, somebody will let me know.

Many thanks Garrett. You obviously worked very hard yesterday and I'm sure similar content over the next 2 days will be much appreciated from members of this community.

Default

Maybe I'm paranoid. Maybe I overestimate the abilities of the search engine companies. But I have always refrained from using any phrase on my site that says anything like:

"reciprocal links"
"exchange links"
"swap links"

Unless you run a large directory, asking for others to provide you with links isn't the way to go. Surf the web and find the most suitable sites to link to, the best sites for your visitors. Then ask them privately if they would consider linking back to your site.
