Default Website/Cache Problem

Ok so first off if this is in the wrong area I do apologize. Second I really need help on this one I am out of ideas now. Basically a client showed me his website, it worked great. He needed a few lines taken off from the content and a few snippets of code added that is it, nothing fancy. Well the day after I went to the website and for some reason it came up as a different site for me, I asked him and he said the same thing but was unsure what had happened. I figured it was some sort of cache issue. I uploaded his new website but it would not reflect the changes on my computer or his. I flushed the dns, deleted cookies, temp files, offline files, reset settings, unsintalled and reinstalled all my browsers, rebooted modem, rebooted my computer, I even went as far as running numerous checks for viruses or spyware and found nothing.

My issue though is the website works on several other systems that I have tried all over the city. Only one did the same thing. Also on the file server I deleted the old files that were being shown but yet they still come up on my system. If anyone understands please help me, again I am out of ideas and although I may be a designer I'm not a tech guru, my knowledge only goes so far!

Thanks for reading and please assist in any way that you can.

-Pat

While there are several possible reasons for this, the first thing that comes to mind is that you are not actually hitting his site when you are browsing; instead, you are most likely hitting a caching server on your ISP. For instance, if your ISP is XYZ, they may cache website data to save bandwidth. Many caching servers will do you the courtesy of making an HTTP request to see if any changes have been made, but others will rely on stale cached data for a brief period of time. This usually resolves itself within 2-3 days.

Am I correct in assuming that the domain IP has not changed?

You probably need to talk to someone in a more senior technical position. A typical customer service rep will probably not be able to address the issue to your satisfaction.

Any idea where to reach one of them? lol

Seriously though where would be a good place to start, I obviously don't want to pay someone big bucks to fix this problem but it's to the point where I am almost willing to pay.

You need to start by verifying that the site is fully accessible from other ISP's. Then see if others on the same ISP can see it. When troubleshooting you need to narrow down the possibilities. Can any other computers from your location access the site?

Narrow it down to specific computers or specific subnets.

If the problem is a caching server at your ISP then you are going to have to either wait until it resolves naturally or ask to speak to a technical supervisor who actually understands more about the system than what he reads from a few customer service flashcards.

Ok thank you for your advice, I think I am going to give it 2-3 days like you said first, if it doesn't resolve by than I am going to test the website out on 10 computers in the city I live in and see how many don't work and go from there.

I'm just absolutely blown away by this though, I mean I go from that directly to my host and I upload and download and change files and everything reflects right away but this website doesn't. I mean what a strange thing to happen.
