Exclamation Warning: 404 Hosting SCAM!

I just came across a site that displayed advertising (AdSense) as 404 result. And it was evidently put in by the hosting company and not the owner of the site (I talked to him - he did not know anything about it) - it showed his competition.

Is it just me or is this the worst scam?

I wouldn't say thats a scam as such.

Its a bit pointless (hey you've got a wrong page, never mind click an advert) ??!? But they're not making anyone click on the ads to be branded as "Scam"

I am of course, assuming.

The hosting company is abusing the error pages of the client. Period.

Yeah, I don't know if I would call it a scam...
It's pretty damn low, though.
But, that's where the hosting industry seems to be headed.
Clients want everything for nothing, hosting companies buckle by offering ridiculous plans for ultra cheap, then they realize they need more income to survive.

It's kinda like your landlord renting out your apartment while you're on vacation
