Why I hate GoDaddy
Argh! Can I vent for a minute? Thanks.
I wanted to design a small web site, so I went to GoDaddy. Why GoDaddy? 1. I'm a stupid newbie and was lured in by their "free" telephone tech support. 2. It was the only place I'd ever heard of for hosting. 3. I figured, they're a well-known company, so they must be okay.
I paid 35 bucks for a year of hosting through GoDaddy's "economy plan"). And I paid 9 bucks for a domain name. Fine. It's a lot of money for a guy like me, but I figured what the heck, it was for my new site. So far, everything seemed to be going along fine.
My site launches. It's small-- only a meg or two of space is being used. Bandwidth usage is minimal because I have only about 45 unique visitors a day. That's fine..I'm not looking for a million visitors. I'm making about 35 cents a day in adsense. It's all good 'cause I'm having fun working on my site. Surely, it seems like this "economy hosting plan" is perfect for a small time guy like me.
I had so much fun making my first web site, I decided I'd make another one. I registered a second domain name and then began working all week on my next new site.
Then, when I went to set up my new site, I found out that my economy hosting won't allow me to put up two sites with two different domain names. Mind you-- my disk space and bandwidth are both minimal. They tell me I have to upgrade to the "Deluxe plan," which would cost me over 70 bucks.
I'm kind of frustrated because I've already given godaddy $55 of my own hard-earned money for the first site. I'm hardly using any of their services, yet they insist I need to upgrade and pay more.
Yes, yes, I suppose I should have read the fine print when I bought the economy plan, but I guess I didn't think this would be an issue since I have a small site that nobody visits. In that sense, it's my own fault. Still-- I think the cost of my teeny little site(s) is getting ridiculous.
If I were making a hundred bucks a month on my sites, I suppose I could justify the costs... but why should I be forking over nearly a hundred dollars so I can tinker with two small-time sites for a year? Anyway, looks like the new site I've been working on all week will never be uploaded.
Furthermore, whenever I log onto godaddy to "Manage my account," all they do is pop up ads trying to get me to buy more more more. Buy. Upgrade. Buy. Upgrade. Buy. Upgrade.
Sheesh.... when my year of hosting is up, I'm done with GoDaddy. Unless I can find a cheaper service that meets my needs, I'll probably give up on designing my own Web sites.
I hope you enjoyed the Superbowl commercials I paid for. Thanks for listening to me complain. :)
