Default Presentaion??

Dear all,

I don't know whether this is a proper place for posting this kind of question or not, but I guess most of you might be familiar with the problem I am having.

Well, I am desigining a promotional presentation for my client company (travel agency). I thought the presentation should be in universal format so that anybody with computer with any OS (Windows, Mac, Unix) or without computer can watch the presentation. So, decided to make the presentation in VCD format. Do you think this is a right decision?

Most people these days have flash, so you may want to go with that, if you can.

Quicktime movies are always good.

If the presentation is going up on a website you definately need to go with Flash (.swf), Quicktime (.mov) or Windows Media (.wmv). If you want to use the most universally acceptable format than Quicktime should probably be your first choice followed by Windows Media and then lastly Flash.

HOWEVER, if your piece is for live (in-person) presentations you should consider using PowerPoint.

Default flash executible file

I just completed one (a flash overview)
but made it into an executable file (.exe),
so all the viewer needs to do is load the CD
into their computer and it "plays".

With an exe file you don't have to worry if the
viewer has Flash or Quicktime or PwoerPoint installed.

The "Flash" movie was done with Swish.

Problem with an exe file is that a Mac won't read it.

Another option would be a PDF. You can drop quicktime movies, flash, and other things into it. Most everybody has Acrobat Reader.

Default yes it depends for a vcd..

Yes it depend on what kind of presentation you have, if it is moving picture with audio you definatly go for a VCD. This is most compatible way to show.

Or

The presentation is in interactive format you can use Powerpoint, Flash or PDF.

You can also convert PPT presentation or any type of
computer based Presentation to VCD format. For this you need a graphics card with video out option and a second PC with a good capture card.

I have converted PPT presentation to VCD format without loosing much in quality. I have also done a travel project for Dept.Of Tourisum Of India.

It is important to know whether your project is a short intro or presentation. In multimedia terms, there is a big difference between INTRO and PRESENTATION projects.
A short intro can be done with QuickTime, VCD, SVCD, WMV etc. Presentation requires interactive features that can be accomplished with PowerPoint, Flash, Authorware, and Director etc.
I agree with everyone. However, nothing beats Macromedia Director when it comes to presentation. The most advanced presentation tool ever made and used by multimedia professionals. Your final output is saved as a standalone projector that works on both PC and Mac. You do not need to install a player to run the projector. If you work with Flash, then you have to make two separate files, one will be the “.exe” for PC and the other “projector” for Mac.
Also as mentioned by other colleagues, it depends on the project you are working with. There is no need to work with a heavy application like Director, if your project is light and simple. If your VCD covers all those requirements and your client is happy with, then you have already accomplished your goal. However, the best presentation is to give the full control of a movie to your visitors. The only control that comes with QuickTime movies or VCD is to stop and play. If your movie is long, it will be too boring for visitors to wait for the part they like to see.
Internet will be out of question if you deliver your work as VCD.

I agree. Director is the choice for this project and you can import your animations done in Flash, so it basically looks like Flash, but it's more stable and for use on any platform.

Dear all,

Thanks a lot lot for your insights. Finally I decided to do it with director and did it. However, I do not have Mac, so now the problem is how do I convert this PC made director project into Mac compatible version. I heard that it has to be retouched in Mac system. Basically, it seems that now my done projector can only be played in MS Windows system.

Regards,
