Default Membership Management

Hi all,

Wanted some feedback best scripts and platforms etc...

Our Cottage Association wants me to redo the website..
  • We want to be able to allow members (700 +) to login and renew their membership each year (paypal or mail-in)
  • Manage member information (name / address / phone / email)
  • Send out newsletter and other information
  • Photo gallery / youtube vid gallery
  • If it lent itself to a small community style (each member has a page) we can work with that too but not necessary
  • Executive to login and edit specific pages only
  • set up polls for general membership
  • Extensible through plugins would be nice eg. discussion forum and more
  • allow for customization of design fairly easily...

I love wordpress but haven't found a module to handle the membership area yet. Joomla and Drupal are other options..

We do NOT want to have our member database hosted (SAAS) we want a script and will pay (a bit) if needed.

As always I greatly appreciate the feedback et al from everyone!

Thank you!

Hi there Orion,

For a lot of your requirements here, maybe Joomla or Drupal would cover the bill. Maybe edging towards Drupal a little based on their concept of interoperability with other technologies.

How far do the association want to go with phase 1 (whatever the concrete agreement is on phase 1), and how likely are they to want to press ahead with the optionals...eg "we'd like to be able to *blah* at some point in the future?"

Joomla/Drupal can seem like a sledgehammer to crack a nut at times, so if the concrete plan was to implement a login for users maybe a quick bit of php might be more efficient than modifying Joomla/Drupal to suit, depending on your experience with them.

I know that one-click-installs are common with a lot of web hosts now (CS New Media, Dreamhost for example) so most of the design requirements could probably be met with a combination of applications such as phpList for mailings etc.

Regards,
Darren.

Any experience with member management systems in Drupal or Joomla? Which plugins would you choose?

We're not looking to have a 'members' area in the site just allow association membership purchases, and member info database for it.

Almost all 'member' plugins are for paid sites and the like, not a lot I can find anymore (used to be plentiful a few years back) for association membership management.

I found a WordPress membership management plugin. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but you should check it out:

(remember to remove [DOT] and replace it with . )

That's what I was talking about. it's great if we want a paid site. but we're looking for an association membership management not something to protect content on the website.
