This is the first time to use Photoshop to build a website; I have always used Frontpage and I have a question regarding content. If you add your content during your development in Photoshop, how is your text scanned by robots? Should I add my text by using a different program?

I'm not sure that Photoshop is the tool to use
for webpage creation. I think it's designed mainly for photo and graphics. So you use photoshop to create and edit your photos and graphics... then insert them into a web page using FP. ~Roland

In addition to that - if you think about all text which is inserted into graphical elements - unfortunately, robots can not index it as it is included into graphic, not visible as pure text in the html code of the page.
However, you can use alt attribute to describe grahpical elements and - in this case - you can put there text which is shown in the image. The alt attribute is taken into account when image is linked to other site.

hey deb, as a follow up to the aforementioned, the thing to realize, that Photoshop is a Photographers tool as well as a Designer and Web Layout graphics program. But onething it isn't is a html editor or layout program.
But there are some things you can do to help make that migration from Photoshop to your favorite html editor a little easier. Primarily, Slice your layout as you would want it to appear in sections of graphical elements. The goal of slicing is to optimize your graphics for your intended web audience per browser. But within, the slicing process, there are further controls that can help make that migration a little smoother. Here's a few pointers: a) Besides the purpose of optimizing graphics, Slices also allow you to predetermine what areas of your layout can be discarded, and what to keep. (I generally always consider a header, menu, content and footer areas when designing) This meaning, a solid color graphic (without textures) can be totally discarded (deleted) and set that table cell to the color of the original graphic. b) For every slice, there are further slice options to manipulate. Such as cell dimensions, url handlers and status bar messages, etc. More importantly, for an area(graphic) that will be discarded and replaced with textual content, set the slice option to 'No Image' and your ready to go. There's plenty of more to tell and theres further details within the Help manual (F1 Key) to clarify, but I hope thats a nudge in the right direction for you. cheers heathrowe |

I use Photoshop as the last step in generating ALL of my web graphics. I then use Fireworks and Dreamweaver to build the site. One very important thing that I've learned with both Photoshop and Illustator is that they generate much better graphics if you use the "Save for web" feature. For some reason using just the "Save" or "Save as" does not create as nice of a gif or jpeg for web usage. Plus with the "Save for web" feature you get to experiment with what quality and file size with a real-time preview.
Just my 2 cents. Gary D. |

Judging by the prices the experts get for their craft, the "two-cent" posts they make are sure worth a lot more than they lead you to believe!
It's nice to have a place like WPW where you can ask "stupid" questions and get valuable advice. What little I know I learned mostly by asking stupid questions. I'm just starting with photoshop (it's incredible) too, so keep asking...

If you learn HTML, you can use your splice code (as Heathrowe explained) of the mockup image, and then just use a text editor to build your site. This is an easy way to mass build templates.

Photoshop is a GREAT tool for design website you just cant edit the content of a website with photoshop. Basically you create the background and the wireframe of your website will Photoshop and then you insert your text with some other program or just learn HTML and use Notepad as I do....
