I am using my laptop with Windows Vista Memory 512 mb 32 bit OS. I am using Frontpage 200 to design my Vintage Home Interiors shabby vintage painted furniture website.
Whenever I edit my site in FP it adds duplicate headers (look at it right now you will see what I mean). So after I save my edits it adds the extra headers and then I have to go in again into my html and delete the extra <body> tags in the html. BUT sometimes if I remove the extra <body> tags and leave one as I am suppose to, it deletes all my page copy and pictures. What is happening? Why is it doing this and what do I do to fix this? shop@vintagehomeinteriors.com is my direct email address if you have some fix I can do. Thank you so much in advance for your help. Jen

Whooo, where to start?
The layout is simple enough to break out of template (or WYSIWYG) mode and code by hand. Probably the best solution. There is no doctype, which can send some browsers into Quirks Mode, but that's probably not the real problem. Set a doctype for say, HTML 4.01 and see what happens to the layout. If you go with XHTML be sure to NOT include the xml declaration because this will turn Quirks Mode back on. Stick to Transitional, for now, as you are using some deprecated tags, at present. A little heavy on the nested blockquotes, eh? Again, hand coding will tighten up the layout so you can see what's working and what's not. I do not recommend nesting blockquote, at all. HTML Code:
<div> <blockquote> <p>Use the BLOCKQUOTE tag for its intended purpose, quoting of whole paragraphs, not layout and positioning.</p> </blockquote> </div> Last edited by weegillis; 05-13-2009 at 03:10 PM. |

[QUOTE=weegillis;438111]Whooo, where to start?
I don't know what any of that means. I don't use html. I just use it in page mode. I do get into the html though when I am adding my shopping cart buttons or hyperlinks. If I were to go in and remove those blockquotes, what would happen? I soooo appreciate your help. Thank you so much! .............. If you're going to rely entirely on your own inexperience and FrontPage to build good code then I can only imagine the headaches you're in for. Everyone comes to a brick wall eventually and is forced to rectify the problems manually.
Is your business a going concern? Should you be tackling the job of building the site without professional support? Can you afford to lose customers because of a broken website? For a few hundred dollars you can retain a developer who can get you going in the right direction. Perhaps this is the solution you might wish to consider while you bring your own skills up to speed. |

Have your site done right. You would not open a brick and mortar business with an unprofessional paint job, counters with missing legs, a color scheme that screams: "Go AWAYYYYY", signs one needs the eyes of an eagle for to read and being dressed in a suit that does not fit you needing patching etc., would you? Appearance is everything.
